segatools.ini

The settings you'll actually change, from the upstream config reference. Config lives at ./segatools.ini next to launch.bat; set the environment variable SEGATOOLS_CONFIG_PATH to point somewhere else, which is how you keep two profiles side by side.

The settings that matter

[clock] timezone

Default 1 — makes the system time zone appear as JST. Leave it on. SEGA games malfunction in odd ways if it isn't JST.

timewarp is an experimental hook that skips the hardcoded server maintenance window. It makes the in-game time wrong, so it's a last resort.

[dns] default

Your LAN IP or hostname. The games check for loopback addresses and reject them, so 127.0.0.1 will not work.

Per-service overrides exist for the ones some games need: title, router (the tenporouter.loc / bbrouter.loc lookups), startup (naominet.jp), billing (ib.naominet.jp), aimedb (aime.naominet.jp). replaceHost=1 rewrites the HOST header too, which helps in some regions.

If you see DNS: BAD and mobirouter.loc resolved for real, your DNS server is answering before segatools can stub it — change your resolver.

[aime] highBaud

Default 1, which is 115200 baud. CHUNITHM needs this; WACCA needs 0 (38400). It's the one setting where two mainstream titles disagree.

gen picks the reader generation, which also changes the LED info the game gets. scan is the virtual-key held to present a card, default 0x0D (Enter). With aimeGen=1 a random Aime ID is generated if DEVICE\aime.txt doesn't exist yet; FeliCa generation is off by default.

[gpio] dipsw1

Default 1 = Server. Exactly one machine per cabinet group must be Server, or clients hang looking for one. This is the fix for the "checking distribution server" stall.

dipsw4 is screen orientation and dipsw5..7 resolution, but only the Nu system startup program reads them — modern titles use option data instead.

sw1/sw2 are alternative Test and Service buttons, F1/F2 by default.

[io4] test / service / coin

Default 1 / 2 / 3. If coin does nothing, check amdaemon.exe hasn't crashed first — that's the usual cause, not the binding.

foreground=1 only accepts input when the game window is focused. It doesn't work for every title.

[ds] region and serialNo

Region is a bit mask: 1 Japan, 4 Export, 8 China, 2 is dead code.

The serial's first three characters encode the hardware series — AAV Nu, AAW NuSX, ACA ALLS.

[keychip]

The subnet setting is the /24 the emulated keychip claims to expect, and addrSuffix is the host's last octet on it. CHUNITHM cab-2-cab wants subnet 192.168.139.0, Server on .11, satellites on .12, .13, .14.

[gfx]

windowed=1 and framed=1 to run in a window, monitor=N to pick a display. dpiAware defaults on and should stay on, or Windows scales the window and it goes blurry.

The rest

[aimeio] path is for a third-party card reader DLL. segatools no longer ships a separate AIMEIO.DLL — that functionality moved into the hook DLLs, so replacing the file is no longer the way to do this.

[vfd] utfConversion=1 makes the console output readable on non-Japanese locales. [hwmon], [jvs] and [amvideo] all let you use real hardware instead of emulation, which you generally don't have.
